Ode To Isolation Play-Along

Composed and recorded in Isolation during the Covid-19 lockdown of 2020.

Spice Fusion cofounder Elliott Henshaw had the idea to try a new way of composing. The aim was to keep everyone’s creativity and team spirit flowing whilst in lockdown. Using a sort of 'tag team' method Elliott composed and recorded a drum part which he then sent to James Treweek who in turn wrote a piano part to fit with it. This was then sent to bass player Simon Goulding and then on to guitarist James Pusey, each composing their parts until a full backing track was written. Next, vocalist Miranda Wilford was sent the track and she wrote a melody and lyrics. Finally it was sent to Elliott’s Spice Fusion partner Simon Niblock to arrange horn parts for the song which were then recorded by himself, Simon Willescroft, Sean Freeman, Tom Walsh and Chris Traves. The whole track was then mixed by Chris Traves and this is the result. At no stage in the process did anyone involved know what was coming to them compositionally - they just had to come up with a part that worked. And they did!!
